We’ve been asked a time or two how we come up with the recipes for our blends, and the short answer is actually pretty simple: we mix things! Obviously, there’s more to it than that, but making your own tea blends is easier than you might think. Pairing even just two teas together can bring out a completely different flavor profile, and your brew is limited only by your own imagination. There truly are endless pairings, but here are a few unexpected combos that you may just want to try!
A tried and true favorite of many of our customers! Individually, Almond Cookie and Black Cinnamon Spice are top-sellers in our black tea section, and we often recommend both as dessert teas, but putting them together? Easy. Who wouldn’t want hints of almond mixed beautifully with bright cinnamon flavors for a tea reminiscent of cinnamon cookies? Pairing these two truly makes for a delicious sweet treat.
Looking for a sweet treat for bedtime? One of our favorite combos is a mixture of Yoga, a wellness blend geared toward boosting your mood and decreasing inflammation, and our best-selling Roasted Almond Chai. With a rooibos and herbal base, Roasted Almond Chai is caffeine-free and offers just the right amount of sweetness to balance the earthy flavors of Yoga, making it a soothing and delicious brew the whole family will enjoy!
This unique pairing was discovered by accident. While checking to see if tins needed to be refilled, one of our TEAm members checked Lapsang Souchong followed by Black Cherry. Both feature incredibly strong scents, and as the scents lingered and mixed in the air, we discovered something entirely new! A cup of equal parts was quickly brewed and it was found that the mixture tasted just as good as it smelled. The deep smoky flavor of Lapsang Souchong is well-matched by bold cherry in a surprising combo that would have otherwise remained a mystery!
It’s no secret that lemon goes well with many a black tea, but we love to pair the creamy citrus flavor of Lemon Meringue with the bold taste of Blackberry Black! Excellent hot and even better cold, this mix is bursting with rich flavors unlike any other combo in the store, and is an easy brew for a hot summer day. Why Lemon Meringue specifically in this blend? We love the smoothness brought by the rooibos and floral combo of marigold and cornflower!
In our experience, you can never have too many caramel matchas, and mixing these two blends makes for a quick and easy version of one! Our Green Caramel boasts a sweet, nutty flavor that’s complimented beautifully by the roasted taste of Gen Mai Cha. A bit of actual matcha is mixed in with puffed rice and popcorn in this traditional green tea, providing a strong, grassy base that has enchanted our customers and staff alike. While we don’t add milk to our fresh brews in-store, we do know that this also makes a delicious latte with just a bit of your favorite milk!
Summer is just around the corner, so we’d be remiss if we didn’t give a suggestion for the warmer months of the year! The tart flavor of Raspberry Green is excellent all on its own, but when paired with the sweetness of Lemon Dew, it really comes to life! This fan-favorite mix is certainly one you’ll want in your cup all summer long, and for more information on how to brew the perfect cup of iced tea, check out our blog post with instructions!
